Renault’s electric revolution has made a bold statement at the TopGear.com Electric Car Awards 2025, where the brand scooped not one, but three major accolades. Leading the charge was the Renault 4 E-Tech electric, crowned both ‘Electric Car of the Year’ and ‘Best Compact EV’, while the Renault 5 Turbo 3E was named the ‘EV We’re Most Looking Forward To Driving In 2025’.
This latest recognition solidifies Renault’s growing dominance in the electric vehicle landscape, following hot on the heels of the Renault 5 E-Tech electric being named Top Gear’s ‘Car of the Year’.
The Renault 4 E-Tech Electric: Charisma Meets Clever Design
Reimagined for the electric era, the new Renault 4 E-Tech electric struck a perfect chord with TopGear’s judges, who praised its charismatic design, clever packaging, and smart, user-friendly technology.
Far from being a retro novelty, the R4 blends nostalgia with modern-day relevance. Consultant Editor Paul Horrell remarked:
“The new Renault 4 is a smart little modern car in itself, recognisably different from the waves of generic-looking stuff washing up in dealers all over the country… Come for the looks, stay for the value, easy ownership, smart tech and genuinely happy drive.”
That “happy drive” is underpinned by a remarkably practical package. Built on a 2.62-metre wheelbase, the R4 offers impressive rear-seat space and a boot that swallows 420 litres—extendable to a cavernous 1,405 litres with the seats folded flat. The cabin is anchored by Renault’s OpenR Link infotainment system, displayed on a crisp 10.1-inch touchscreen, while a 100 kW DC charger enables a rapid 15–80% top-up in just 30 minutes.
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E: A Retro-Futuristic Rocket
If the R4 is Renault’s sensible side, then the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is its electric alter ego—bold, brash, and born to perform. Reviving the unhinged spirit of the original Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2, the 3E is anything but ordinary.
With two rear-mounted in-wheel motors delivering 540hp and 4,800Nm of torque, the R5 Turbo 3E hits 0–62 mph in under 3.5 seconds—supercar numbers cloaked in hot hatch form. Its outrageous powertrain, dramatic styling, and limited run of 1,980 individually numbered units pay homage to the legendary 1980 original.
TopGear.com’s Editor-in-Chief Jack Rix didn’t hold back in his anticipation:
“Lunacy is what the Renault 5 Turbo has always been about… This version is following the family business using ingredients from 2025, so naturally we’re chomping at the bit to have a go.”
