Suzuki Motor Corporation proudly celebrates a remarkable milestone: its iconic compact car, the Swift, has achieved accumulated global sales of 10 million units as of July 2025. Less than 21 years after its debut in November 2004 in Japan, the Swift has grown from a single model into one of Suzuki’s most celebrated global strategic vehicles, redefining the company’s approach to car making along the way.

A Flagship Born for the World

From the outset, the Swift was conceived as a compact car built to meet global standards. It quickly earned acclaim for its dynamic design, efficient performance, and reliability, capturing the hearts of customers worldwide. Over the years, it has been honoured with Car of the Year awards in Japan and several other countries, solidifying its status as a flagship model for Suzuki.

President of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Toshihiro Suzuki, reflected on the achievement:
“Thanks to our customers around the world who have chosen the Swift, we are proud to announce that its accumulated global sales have reached 10 million units. We extend our heartfelt gratitude. Moving forward, Team Suzuki will continue working together to deliver valuable products that support the daily mobility of our customers around the world.”

A Global Production Footprint

The Swift’s success story is not limited to its sales figures—it also represents a bold step in Suzuki’s global manufacturing strategy. Since its launch, the Swift has been produced in Japan, Hungary, India, China, Pakistan, and Ghana, catering to markets across more than 170 countries and regions.

Of the 10 million units sold, the largest share—60%—has been in India, where the Swift has sold approximately 6 million units since 2005, establishing itself as a leader in the compact car segment. Europe accounts for 14% of sales, Japan 8%, and the remaining 18% comes from other regions, demonstrating the Swift’s universal appeal.
